Extinction on Discovery Island by Johanna Strobel
Don’t miss Locust Projects’ Spring Fling this Saturday, April 18—founded by artists, for artists in 1998 and still one of Miami’s most vital spaces—and step into A Bought Kingdom, Johanna Strobel’s newly commissioned immersive installation in the Project Room.
Our latest release, Extinction of Discovery Island, accompanies the exhibition—pick up a copy at the event.
About:
A Bought Kingdom is a video installation framed as a fable but grounded in historical fact. It traces the extinction of the Dusky Seaside Sparrow, a small, non migratory, not very fancy, local Florida bird that lived in the salt marshes of Merritt Island, an area separated from Cape Canaveral by just a river. The species’ habitat was gradually destroyed by the development of the Kennedy Space Center and its infrastructure to reach the “Greatest Human Achievement”- the moon landing.

Maggi Galaxy Book Release & Talk
| Join us for an evening celebrating the work of artist Antoni Miralda, whose practice transforms food into a vibrant artistic, social, and cultural language. Miralda will be in conversation with Stephan Palmié and César E. Trasobares, reflecting on his deep ties to Miami and his expansive, interdisciplinary practice. The event also marks the Miami release of Maggi Galaxy, a new publication by Miralda and Palmié exploring the global and symbolic life of the Maggi cube. A reception and book signing will follow, with books available for purchase at the event. At nearly 700 pages, Maggi Galaxy operates as both archive and artwork, mapping the aesthetics, politics, and global circulation of the Maggi cube—co-published by LIT Verlag and EXILE Projects.
