Zine Release + Screening “Querido Pequeño Haiti”

by Diana Larrea

Join us for a celebration of Little Haiti with the release of Querido Pequeño Haiti (Dear Little Haiti)—a stunning new zine by Oolite artist Diana Larrea. Part of EXILE’s Zine Machine series, this bold, newspaper-style publication spotlights local artists and is distributed via vintage vending machines across Miami.

Inspired by Diana’s experimental short documentary—described as “a love letter to a place that will forever be home… a visual ode and farewell to a neighborhood rapidly changing”—the zine brings intimate community stories to life on the printed page.

The evening begins with a screening of short films honoring Haitian and Peruvian heritage, followed by Diana’s film and the official zine launch. The night concludes with a moderated discussion and Q&A featuring EXILE founder and Oolite alum Amanda Keeley—an uplifting celebration of storytelling, cultural exchange, and community dialogue.

*street parking available.

Alien Photography Workshop by Jeilin Espinel

How do we see ourselves in a city shaped by movement, migration, and layered histories?
In this hands-on workshop, participants will reflect on their sense of place and identity through the lens of photography. Led by artist Jeilin Espinel, Alien Photography Workshop invites a visual response to the complexities of living in a multicultural city—where personal stories are often inherited, fragmented, or reimagined.

Friday, July 25 | 11AM–2PM
EXILE Projects, 5900 NW 2nd Ave, Miami
$25 | Bring your camera or phone
Open to all. No prior photography experience necessary. Especially resonant for those who  have ever felt out of place, in transition, or in the midst of self-redefinition.

About the workshop:

At the start of the session, Jeilin will offer an introduction and invite participants to write a personal reflection using guiding prompts, setting the tone for the visual exploration to come.

Rather than emphasizing technique, the workshop encourages close attention—looking as a way to question, remember, and notice what often goes unseen. Participants take a short walk through Little Haiti, alone or in groups, capturing 3 to 5 images that resonate with their reflections.

Midway through, we’ll pause for a break at our neighborhood Argentine empanada spot, Sur, to continue the conversation and connect (lunch not included in workshop fee).

After returning from the walk, participants will choose one image that best reflects their exploration. With guidance, they’ll turn it into a printed poster, optionally paired with a short phrase or excerpt from their reflections.

Book release: Hace Días que Duermo con el Pasaporte al Borde de la Cama by Jeilin Espine

Join us for a special evening celebrating the release of Hace Días que Duermo con el Pasaporte al Borde de la Cama, a new photobook by artist Jeilin Espinel. The event will feature a conversation between Espinel and the publisher Jaime Núñez del Arco of Terminal Ediciones.

About the Book:
With a title that resonates deeply in today’s world, Hace Días que Duermo con el Pasaporte al Borde de la Cama (Some Days I Sleep with My Passport at the Edge of the Bed) documents the migrant experience in Miami—a historic Latino enclave in the United States.

Through a lens of displacement, wonder, and longing, Jeilin captures fragments of her native Venezuela in the landscapes of Miami’s suburbs and highways. Her photographs explore questions of memory and belonging, asking:

Is home a physical place? Can memory become home? And where does the migrant carry that sense of home?

We hope you’ll join us for this timely and personal conversation.
