Books & Books in Coral Gables
ESPRESSO EDITIONS #3
Joining us this month are the creative minds behind Lemon Yellow, an international branding and design company based in Miami. We have asked Erika and Julian to join us to talk about their passion for design, their creative process, and the work they do with arts & cultural organizations.
Each month, a local artist, designer, or curator will join us to discuss their creative process, inspirations, and the challenges they face amid increasing cultural restrictions. Moderated by Amanda Keeley, these intimate, coffee-fueled discussions invite the community to discover the power of bookmaking as both art and advocacy.
Espresso Editions is generously supported by the City of Coral Gables and invites audiences to discover the vibrant stories and processes behind the artist book movement in South Florida.
About:
Erika Morales, Partner & Creative Director
Erika originally trained as a fine artist.
She learned to craft.
She learned to create.
But above all she learned to think.
Which is why she’s now a highly conceptual, strategically savvy designer.
Obsessed with fluency and functionality, she balances form and function as well as she balances clients and their audiences. After 5 years as designer in a in a top Fortune 100 company, she co-founded Lemon Yellow in 2005.
Recognized internationally, she has contributed to numerous art and design exhibitions and publications both in Miami and abroad. Inspired by the world of architecture and industrial design, she is a naturally creative problem solver whose elegant solutions put the “art” into “smart”.
Julian Martin, Partner & Creative Director
Julian is many things.
A filmmaker.
An art director.
A designer.
Ultimately however, he is a storyteller.
A thoughtful and rigorous creative, Julian is a consummate craftsman, bringing both imagination and integrity to everything he does. Whether he is editing, designing, or directing, he’s always looking to create a clear narrative journey for his clients and their audience.
Producing work for both national and international clients, Julian’s output has been published in numerous international design publications. He’s also fascinated by typography, and loves nothing more than creating his own custom typefaces from scratch – a further indication of his unique commitment to craft and original thinking.
