ESPRESSO EDITIONS #5
This month, we are excited to welcome Yaddyra Peralta – O, Miami’s Director of Civic Publishing as our guest speaker. With six years in the publishing industry and extensive experience working with writers from diverse backgrounds, Yaddyra will share insights into O, Miami’s evolution—from a month-long poetry festival into a powerful advocate for literary arts through innovative publishing projects.
Moderated by Amanda Keeley, founder of EXILE Books, Espresso Editions invites artists, designers, and curators to explore their inspirations, creative journeys, and the power of books in a shifting cultural landscape.
Espresso Editions is generously supported by the City of Coral Gables and celebrates the vibrant voices and processes behind the independent publishing movement in South Florida.
About:
Yaddyra Peralta, a poet originally from Tegucigalpa, Honduras, immigrated to Miami with her family at the age of six. It was there that her passion for poetry began, sparked by an introduction to haiku from her first-grade Spanish teacher.
Her essays and poetry have since been featured several anthologies including Eight Miami Poets (O, Miami, 2015), The Breakbeat Poets, Vol. 4: LatiNext (Haymarket Books, 2020), and Home in Florida: Latinx Writers and the Literature of Uprootedness (University Press of Florida, 2021), as well as in various publications including BOMB, The Florida Review, Ploughshares, and The Miami Herald.
Yaddyra holds an MFA in Poetry from Florida International University and brings to her role as O, Miami's Director of Civic Publishing her extensive experience working with writers of diverse backgrounds and her six years of experience in the publishing industry.
O, Miami
O, Miami builds community around the power of poetry. Through collaborations, projects, events, and publications, we create a platform for amplifying Miamians, investing in a new shared narrative of our city and a more equitable picture of its future.
Our publishing program goes beyond the printed word to reach Miamians by using every available city surface, from fake parking tickets to warehouse rooftops. We collect literary work by Miamians through open calls, workshops, and outreach, and then broadcast that work into the community through books, public art, and digital platforms.
