30 Days in Versailles Zine

EXILE Books celebrated the 50th anniversary of Miami’s iconic cuban restaurant Versalles and its ties to Miami’s cultural heritage, Cuban Identity and Latin cuisine. For 30 days in December 2021, EXILE replaced the paper products utilized in Versailles with artist designed temporary menus, placemats, table tents and cafecito cups which featured bilingual stories, poems, and imagery that related to the restaurant’s history, and Cuban identity while accentuating the unique qualities of the extensive menu. This surprise dining intervention offered a nuanced approach to blending food culture with art, design and storytelling.

In collaboration with Curator Alex Valls, History Miami Museum, and the University of Miami’s Cuban Heritage Collection, the project culminated in a zine filled with historical imagery and contemporary voices produced by local writers, poets and artists to pay homage to this venerable cornerstone of our unique city.
